8 WEEK SUMMER STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING PROGRAM FOR DANCERS
Off-season
Strength and Conditioning
An 8-week program designed for dancers to (1) learn the basics of strength and conditioning, (2) improve strength, power and flexibility for dance, and (3) keep training load up in hopes to avoid a spike in training hours in the fall.
Summer rolls around, and your school and dance schedule relax a bit. You have a few summer intensives scheduled, but other than that you plan to rest. You just finished a very tough competition season!
Does this sound familiar?
While rest is amazing for your body, this type of yo-yo activity levels can make your training load look something like this, which may not put you in the best position going into the fall.
Implementing a strength and conditioning program can help to RESTORE flexibility and strength that you may have lost during the season (overuse can actually lead to stiffness and weakness), BUILD the power and resilience that your muscles need for next competition season, and MAINTAIN a healthy and safe training load that will put you in better shape moving into the fall (learning choreo, starting fall dance, etc).
PLAN TO SUCCEED
In this 8 week program, you will have access to a graded (progressive) exercise program.
1
Learn the basic movement patterns and technique of exercises that will be progressed over your 8 week program.
2
Build on exercises that will improve the strength, power, and resilience of muscle tissue, as well as your cardiovascular fitness, that is needed for dance skills.
3
Maintain a baseline training load that will be realistic to build off of to start learning choreo in the fall (and avoid quick spikes in training load).
